My Brother's Letters Home: Blutiger Eimer (28th) Division Field Artillery Officer's Letters Home
Published in Paperback by Vantage Press (February, 1900)
Authors: Lawrence Percival Hall, Lawerence Percival, Jr Hall, and John Milliken Hall
Average review score:

A Soldier's Life
These letters are a rare glimpse into a soldier's thoughts during WWII. Pieces of history, many forgotten are brought to light. Experience a pass to Paris, how wonderful after months living in the field in the cold and mud. A simple watch was one of the few items this man requested from home. That his letters, often written from the battle field were delivered home and responses returned is a wonder of army mail service. The photos of home and family and notes from the author, the letter writer's brother enrich the book and add perspective. Highly valuable as a teaching tool for students. The book is short and hard to put down until you've gone cover to cover.

My People's Praye Book, Vol 3
Rabbi Hoffman's book, My People's Prayer Book, Vol. 3, is an exquisit addition to any Jewish library. This book, which concentrates on Psukei DiZimra, morning prayers, teaches both the experienced and neophyte person, what these particular prayers mean, their significance in the morning service and why they need to be said. All three of Hoffman's books on prayer have proved a great assett in the classroom and in my personal spiritual aspiration to learn more.

Authors: Allan Ahlberg and John Lawrence
Average review score:

The Mysteries of Zigomar
I've enjoyed reading Allan Ahlberg books to my kids for several years. I was thrilled when I saw this one at the Library. My kids and I enjoy it so much, I'm going to buy my own copy. The stories and poems are good for all ages and perfect for short reading times like when your kids are so tired they fall asleep after the first couple pages. The Paper Boy and the Vampire and the Hound are our favorite selections. They are both creative and fun!

The Narrative of Antonio Munoz Molina: Self-Conscious Realism and "El Desencanto" (Currents in Comparative Romance Languages and Literatures, Vol. 78)
Published in Hardcover by Peter Lang Publishing (March, 1999)
Author: Lawrence Rich
Average review score:

How to read a contemporary
Serious criticism about living authors is an oddity, especially if the author is on the peak of his/her career. This rule is broken by Rich, who offers an insightful and complete analysis of Munoz Molina's work. Based on the concepts of postmodern narrative by Hutcheon and McHale, Rich provides an in-depth reading of the historical connotations of the Spanish writer's fiction. His reading of Beltenebros as a "historiographic metafiction" is particularly enriching. For those who admire the Spanish writer this book is an excellent way to discuss ideas about his work, because despite of being a little bit technical it is still very legible.

Natural Wonders of Kentucky: Exploring Wild and Scenic Places (Natural Wonders of)

Author: Ardi Lawrence
Average review score:

Each entry is a vivid word picture of your day's experience
We bought a copy by reason of sheer vanity since you quoted a good part of our conversation verbatim. It's not vanity that keeps me coming back again and again to read a few more of your entries about various locations around the state. Each entry is a vivid word picture of the experience you had on the particular day you made your visit. That's a lot more than most travel guides offer and a whole lot more interesting.

Nature, Contemplation, and the One: A Study in the Philosophy of Plotinus
Published in Paperback by Larson Pubn (December, 1991)
Authors: John N. Deck and Lawrence Dewan
Average review score:

The best introduction to Neoplatonic philosophy.
John Deck's book--originally his dissertation--is the single best introduction to Neoplatonic philosophy and the theology of Plotinus. Neoplatonic thought is notoriously difficult because no one part of it offers an easy way to understand it. There are many advanced books, such as those by A.H. Armstrong, which offer treatments of difficult themes in Plotinus. Deck's book is an essential stepping stone for anyone who wishes to understand Plotinus or to read other advanced books about Plotinus.
